For years, the Forestry Commission has been working tirelessly to research tree pests and diseases, and to promote good tree health. However, as the threat from the spread of tree pests and disease intensifies, it became a top priority for the Forestry Commission to better communicate best practice and to link with partners working in related sectors to make sure that the issue is tackled to slow the spread.
We won a competitive pitch which we delivered in early 2014 following a period of research, consultation and testing with key stakeholders. We are now in the process of implementing that strategy, delivering themed packages of activity and helping the Forestry Commission in establishing and maintaining relationships with crucial partners.
So far, we have designed, developed and written Tree Health News, a now-quarterly newsletter that goes out to stakeholders across the country working within relevant sectors, and developed disease-specific communications tools. We devised a specialist biosecurity campaign, with audience-specific communications tools, such as leaflets and stickers, alongside a trade press PR campaign.
Evaluation of our tree health work is just beginning, and we’re already impressed with the number of sector partners who have already engaged with the campaign.
